Also, the castle inhabitants could easily access the extensive tunnels inside the caves to reach nearby towns and thus resupply during sieges.

While many head straight for Lake Bled, my strongest recommendation is to stay on the bus longer and head straight to Lake Bohinj, especially if you love nature and fewer crowds. Located deeper within Triglav National Park, it offers raw, spectacular beauty.
